...............

Diane has been dreaming mermaids
since she was a child, living in Prague, Czech Republic. Morsky Pany, or mermaids existed far away in the ocean she had never seen, but the vodniks - the mysterious and elusive lake dwellers fed her imagination until she could move to Cape Cod and meet (and paint) her mermaid dreams.

Some of Diane's paintings are inspired by people she knows, the painting shown above is inpired by her mom Jamila, others are comissioned to be a likeness of someone's child
or loved one.

When a mermaid comes to Diane,
sometimes it's just a flash of a tail and long curled hair or at times it's a full encounter of swimming underwater with
starfish and seahorses. As you encounter these beings, may you also swim with your wild divine. Imagination is the gateway to experiences beyond our wildest dreams.

Mermaids Dream: Czech Glass Bead Bracelets, Handmade with love by Jarmila Diane. These are the mystical treasures a mermaid finds on the sea floor. Each bracelet includes glass beads which my family has collected in Prague, Czech Republic. One of my earliest memories as a child is playing in an iced over mountain stream in the ski country outside of Prague - mid winter, seeing the light play through the water on colors which were more beautiful and sparkling beyond any precious gems. I fished them out with my bare frozen hands and collected buckets of fancy shaped glass beads and crystals. I later found out that a local glass maker lived up-stream and these were her not so perfect beads. To me as a child, these brought me such simple bliss, they were perfection.

.Yemaya

This spring I was present at the birth of my friend Katies son Hayden. Katie called me around 3:30 am to be with her for the experience at Cape Cod Hospital. Hayden was joyfully born later that afternoon. The next morning I awoke again at 3:30, I was drawn to paint a mermaid, and started humming a song I have heard in the past somewhere, I think it had played on my ipod during the day at the hospital. As I sang Ye-ma-ya Ase-su, for hours while painting, a sense of peace washed over me. I decided that Yemaya would be a fine name for this mermaid, she felt like Yemaya to me. I decided to look up what her name meant on line, since I wanted to be sure Yemaya was a proper name.

Here's what Google brought up:

Yemaya:

Yemaya is a West African (Yoruba) creation goddess, often depicted as a mermaid. She is associated with the moon, the ocean and female mysteries. Yemaya governs the household and intervenes in women's affairs. She is a merciful goddess, invoked by women for aid in childbirth, love and healing. She rules over the conception and birth of children and ensures their safety during childhood.
Yemaya's Wisdom: I nurture, heal, touch, bless, comfort and make whole that which is incomplete.
